KERSWELL BARNS
Mid Devon
Our team were approached by an existing client to review a development opportunity within the small village of Kerswell consisting of a series of large redundant farm buildings, courtyard and associated agricultural land. We conducted the initial feasibility study which gave the client the confidence to move forward with the acquisition of the land.
KEY WORKS
Renovation of a collection of derelict farm buildings into five private market barn conversions
Private investor lead project including feasibility study
Integral collaboration with ecologist & Natural England
Major structural improvement works to existing barns
Renovation of courtyard & landscaping to surrounding area
Solid oak detailing throughout
Once the land had been purchased our team worked closely with the client to appoint a design team to progress the site through planning and building control. Due to the way the site was financed the site was broken down into two phases. Phase 1 consisted of renovating the first two barns. Phase 2 consisted of renovating the remaining three barns, courtyard and surrounding landscaping.
The derelict barns had been in a state of disrepair for some time and, working with the design team, we put together cost effective solutions in order to overcome significant structural issues. As anticipated the barns had become home to many new residents which meant working alongside Natural England and an Ecologist in order to make sure that all species were adequately protected, rehomed and cared for throughout the construction process.
Kerswell Barns Court was transformed into a stunning standalone collection of traditional barn conversions with a modern contemporary feel inside. Each barn benefited from its own bespoke features which gave each property an individual twist. The barns were constructed utilising the most modern methods of construction resulting in the properties being extremely thermally efficient. The barns were all sold off plan which allowed the purchasers to be involved in design choices as well as making individual tweaks to suit their needs.
